5 out of 5 stars Well written informational book   April 29, 2005
3 out of 4 found this review helpful

This book is wonderful at explaining odds for many different casino games. Beginners and intermediate players will benefit. The Blackjack, video poker, and craps sections were very informational.
Pros: Fun to read, technical enough to be interesting for beginners and intermediate gamblers, large amount of information in one book.
Cons: If you're a regular at the casino, have played for years, and have read other books involving gambling this book may just be an enjoyable read, but not very informative.

3 out of 5 stars Review   December 9, 2004

This book gave good details into wagering online, however, I found that it lacked the details of a truely great betting book. It's a little thin on the online world of betting.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't insult your intelligence   October 6, 2004

This book is very straightforward in that it tells you what the odds are on various games at the casino. It doesn't insult your intelligence by telling you that you can come up with a strategy to put the odds in your favor with a couple of exceptions that you must work very hard at to be successful. The two exceptions are blackjack with card counting and video poker with the optimal payoff machines.

It does tell you the best games and the best strategies in those games to minimize the disadvantage that you have against the casino. No matter what you are still at a disadvantage! Other books with titles implying that their strategies will help you beat the casino are all bogus. Remember, cities like Las Vegas and Atlantic city were not built based upon patrons leaving with more than they came.

5 out of 5 stars very helpful   January 29, 2003

It avoids getting too technical with odds and probablilities. Although, it does touch on mathematical stuff, which can be skipped for the laymen. It is highly recommended if you're going to Vegas, the reason I got it. I have improved my poker skills since reading it. It's written for the average person who wants to improve their odds before going to Vegas. It covers a great selection of games, too. Even the new ones like Pai Gow Poker and Caribean Stud.
